3 Indiana Men Injured in Highway 65 Wreck

October 18, 2011

A high-speed crash left three Loogootee men injured — one critically — on Monday morning near Indiana’s Posey/Vanderburgh County line.

The Evansville Courier-Press reports that the crash occurred around 7 a.m. when the 19-year-old driver of a northbound Ford F-350 lost control of the truck when negotiating a curve and hit an embankment. Before coming to a stop, the truck rolled several times. Two passengers were partially ejected from the vehicle. A 42-year-old passenger and 22-year-old passenger were both pinned beneath the truck.

All three men were transported by ambulance to Deaconess Hospital. The driver and 22-year-old passenger were treated and released, but the 42-year-old male suffered internal injuries and required emergency surgery.

“At the time, we thought [the 46-year-old’s injuries] were non-life threatening,” Indiana State Police Trooper Kylen Compton told The Evansville Courier-Press.  He was talking and everything at the scene. But I just left Deaconess Hospital, and he was rushed off to surgery for what they told me were critical injuries.”

As of Monday afternoon the man remained in critical condition.

A fourth passenger in the truck was uninjured. No one wore seatbelts in this crash.
