The VA rates many physical and mental conditions for disability compensation. Below is a list of some of the illnesses and injuries veterans may experience grouped by type or the body system affected. Each condition links to more information, including the VA’s rating criteria for the condition.
Veterans’ disability law changes often, so if there is something missing on our list of VA disability conditions, contact us.
It is important to note that service-connected conditions that are not specifically listed here or even in the VA Schedule of Ratings can still qualify you for disability benefits. It would be impossible to make a complete VA disability claims list. It is common for our veterans to have more than one rateable condition – veterans receiving disability benefits are rated on average for more than five conditions each.
Conditions may be service connected on a direct, secondary, or presumptive basis. Conditions may also be aggravated, or worsened, by service, which also qualifies a veteran for disability. Finally, if you have a health condition caused by negligence at a VA medical facility, you can qualify for VA disability.
VA disability rates for conditions are based on how they affect your life, not on whether or not you were in combat or not.
Veterans who struggle to work due to symptoms of their service-connected conditions may also be eligible for total disability based on individual unemployability (TDIU) benefits, which pays the same monthly compensation as veterans rated at 100%. That means you might get $3,831.30 with only a 70% rating.
If you have applied and been denied benefits for your service-connected illness or injury, you can contact us today for a free case evaluation. We have helped thousands of veterans across the country get the compensation they deserve.
