Dependency and indemnity compensation (DIC) is a monthly benefit available to surviving spouses, children, or parents of a veteran who died because of a service-connected disability. DIC payments are exempt from taxes and are made to survivors for the rest of their lives. The current DIC basic monthly pay rate is $1,437.66. The surviving spouse, child, or parent must meet specific eligibility requirements to qualify for benefits.
